Elisha Stender recently joined TRIPIL as an Independent Living Deaf/Blind Specialist. An Uniontown native, Elisha has a Sign Language Interpreting degree from Pierpoint Community & Technical College in Fairmont, WV. Candy Oakley is a new Independent Living Specialist at the Washington TRIPIL office. She has worked in Human Services for the past 12 years servicing children, youth and adults. “I have seen many challenges that individuals face. D. David Misra is the new Director of Development at TRIPIL. Prior to TRIPIL, David was the Director of Institutional Advancement at DePaul School for Hearing and Speech in Pittsburgh where he was responsible for soliciting funding and publicity to benefit children with hearing impairments.
David possesses a Master's Degree in Public Affairs from American University in Washington, DC and has 20+ years of experience in fundraising, marketing, public relations and legislative affairs.
David's priorities at TRIPIL will be to increase private, corporate and government funding for current programs and new initiatives. He will also manage a capital campaign to finance TRIPIL's move to an expanded facility in Washington, PA in the near future.
David has been involved in the disability rights movement since the early 1980s and has volunteered with Western PA Special Olympics, the Jewish Community Center and the ARC of Allegheny County. TRIPIL welcomes Leah Gray as the new Deputy Director. Leah graduated from Edinboro University with a BS Degree in Business Administration/Accounting. While at Edinboro, she was very active in sports where she often competed locally and nationally in track, field, swimming, weightlifting, and road racing-including 9 marathons.
Leah acquired her MBA with a concentration in Sports Management from Robert Morris University. Briefly she lived in Atlanta, GA where she graduated with internship for Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA). Leah was then hired by the Atlanta Paralympic Organizing Committee (APOC) to work in transportation for the 1996 Paralympic Games.
Leah began her career in independent living as a subcontractor for PCIL and then worked for TRCIL as the Director of Community Relations. Leah then took a position as a Development Director for LifeSpan, Inc., where she helped raise funds for their capital campaign. Leah prior job before joining the TRIPIL Team was at Harmarville Outreach Programs and Educational (HOPE) Network where she worked to help develop all of the health sports activities including a fitness/wellness program.
Leah, helped found the Steel City Starz, Pennsylvania's only all women's wheelchair basketball team and one of only 14 in the US. Leah was also selected as one of Southwestern PA's Outstanding Women in Sports by the Women & Girls Foundation and she is the President of the Women's Division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA), as well as curling and wheelchair softball.
